Sometimes I could make out the shady figure of surfer and the wake of his board out on a ghostly wave and got an idea of the size of the swell. I was hoping for the fog to clear up a little bit and hung out at the beach for a while.

Late in the afternoon the fog got a little bit lighter, but I still only could guess what was really going on out on the sea. I soaked in what would be my last view of the Atlantic Ocean for a while and then prepared for hitting the road again. A call from my sister with bad news about the prospects of my brother-in-law’s fight against cancer dampened my already sorry mood. But there was no choice, the trip was over, and I had to continue the return drive.

I was back on the motorway at dusk and had an easy drive until I reached the outskirts of Bordeaux. Here I got stuck in the weekend traffic jam on the ring motorway for more then an hour. I was already tired then but had to continue driving in the rain for a couple of more hours. I made it past Blois and spent the night on a service area.
