But suddenly, around late October, the activity on WhattsApp increased more and more. My ever-optimistic surf buddy Flo claimed that epic conditions were expected for the region around Klitmøller and Hanstholm in northern Denmark. He promised conditions like on the Hawaiian Islands. Well, long time ago, Cold Hawaii became nickname of the region around Klitmøller, but thinking about northern Denmark at the end of October, the emphasis certainly would be more on the word „Cold“ than on „Hawaii“.

Anyway, against all common patterns, this time, the wind forecast did not disappear just before the weekend, and after rescheduling a number of appointments, I packed all my gear I might possibly need, and found myself in the car and on the highway, heading north. My VW Passat officially complies with all EU regulations for emissions, but for sure it was exceeding any regulations regarding the maximum load – and this completely analogue, without any manipulated software. Google maps predicted about 10 hours from Krefeld to Kiel and further to
Klitmøller. Quite a ride…

Even if I was not affected from the software manipulations, the software of my navigation system was about to quit its service. Almost the entire screen was blinking in all kind of colors and with various warning messages, showing traffic jams, construction areas and closed roads on any possible route to Kiel. Totally crazy, but also totally normal in the early evening hours in the middle of the week.
