[River Jam p3]

Blue: What will the event be like? How will you organize the heats?

Boris: It´ll be a variable session, with as little regulations as possible. It´s not about how many mistakes a rider makes, it´s all about the most sick moves that he´ll pull.
The 16 to 20 surfers will be selected and invited by Flo, at the moment it looks like most riders will be from the Fus Crew and our young guns gang “The Penis Triggers”.
The riders will judge themselves, they will each find a ranking in their own heats and decide who makes it to the final.
Heat duration is not 100% clear yet, but it will be something between 15 and 20 minutes.

Blue: I guess there will be several riders in a heat. Who will have priority? The one running back the fastest? Or will it be one after another?

Boris: We won´t give any priorities to the heats, it won´t be like in skateboarding with two or more riders on the wave, but the ones who are quicker will get more rides. Because of the small number of riders in a heat everybody will get his share. Let´s call it a chaotic organized priority.

Blue: Do we have a chance to see top notch moves as supermans or flips? Will you set up ramps or rails?

Boris: I don´t know that much about the tricks but the boys will surely get off and Flo will try his kick flips. The Superman is already a standard move. We don’t have a bomb drop platform yet, but we´ll figure something out and for the rail we use one of these fences that you see on concerts. They are a bit higher and thinner….

Blue: I have the impression that what you do at the Eisbach is nowadays more influenced
by skateboarding then classic surfing on the ocean. Is there a tendency into that direction? Is there a own sub sport evolving?

Boris: As far as I can judge it, there is definitely a tendency to skateboard moves among young surfers. Same as in the ocean when the waves are small. I don´t want to talk about a subculture, because it is in the nature of the surfers to leave the usual behind and try new things. It´s always been like this and still is in many sports. While skating in the halfpipe kids got bored with only doing kick turns, so they tried to skate obove the kooping and did airs.

Blue: Will you be surfing at day or at night?

Boris: We start around 8 and will have the final so that we will get those night shots again. Winners awards will be aroung 11:30 at the Netzer & Overath.

Blue: How do you plan to present the event afterwards (photos, film?) and in which media?

Boris: We´ll present the event in all kind of medias, for example at .blue in word and photos, and at freecaster.tv we will show the second episode of our legendary “Fus Jam” videos. Besides that I´m working together with Seis (the organizer of the La Santa Pro) to present the trip of the three winners to the Canaries at  German TV.
