[Santa TowInBig p6]

We decided to postpone it for early Tuesday at Martiánez. All day the telephone hadnīt stopped ringing with friends calling, and all kind of people calling who just liked to see such a spectacular and new event at the Canarias, all wanting to know when we would hit the water. Tired from the day and even more tired from watching some funny videos on the internet I went to bed at about 11 oī clock. Next day I got up early and woke my buddies. Soon after the telephone started to ring again and didnīt stop. The tension started to build and we got into a hurry, driven by the feeling that something was missing, left and arrived at Martiánez. It was raining, cold and a bit windy.

We started to prepare everything. Despite the early hour and the unfavorable weather there were already quite a lot of people waiting for the event to start. Motivated by that we didnīt hesitate and within less than 30 minutes we dressed, prepared the skis and brought them to shore. We went out and all felt concerned and tense, not knowing what kind of waves we would find, even more so as we already had noticed that the swell had lost size. We reached the point and there were no waves. Seis told that he had see some waves braking at the radio station, but they hesitated to come over. Again something broke and they told us that the set was looking a bit bigger. We waited a few minutes to check the waves and Guirre got ready to take one. I urged Zeben, who was still preparing, to go now and take advantage of the morning offshore. El Guirre tried it but they were to far out and didnīt get into the wave. Again I told Zeben to go now, knowing that the wave size would drop, the wind would get stronger and the tide was coming in, which ment that we only would have the early morning hours. He payed little attention because it was only his second time out ere, and people were watching. I talked to him and tried to calm him a bit. We started with smaller waves and then things got better. After a few waves sets were coming more constantly and waves were a bit cleaner and bigger. We all started to freak  a bit. I towed Zeben into a big wave, followed him on the back of the wave and as the wave started to get size I watched him drop. This view made me a bit envious of not being on this wave myself! And the tube behind him excited me, knowing that this was one of the best waves of the day. We repeated this until he got tired. Then I towed Duncan. At the beginning he felt a bit unsecure with me, which is normal as we donīt know us and it totally depends on me if he catches a good wave or throws himself into a journey over the falls which would made him pay hard. We started with the medium sized waves, but soon we waited for some of the sets to have more size in the wave and he got quite satisfied. After a while he got tired and told me to tow the other ones.

With Paul I again started with medium sized waves and not too close to the rock so that he could warm up. After riding some good waves he was very happy and told me that he wanted to stop because of getting tired.

I told Zeben to tow me now, even that at the beginning he didnīt want to because he didnīt have as much experience as the others but at the end I could convince him. I got ready and jumped into the sea. We did a little bit of warm up and he towed me into a small one. We were waiting for something bigger but the swell had less size than in the early hours. He towed me into a wave where the foam ate me and sent me into a good hold down where my leach was stretched at least four meters longer as the board was held down to ground and pulling at my leg for almost 10 seconds. I released my leach as another set was coming behind that wave but I was lucky. I got out and caught a few more waves but they became inferior, with less size and more wind. We decided to get back to shore.
