With the turning wind it started to rain big time and we spent the rest of the day killing time in the local beach bar before moving over to Peniche for dinner in the old town centre.

Sunday had a 3 to 4-meter swell with a period of about 11 seconds plus 25 knots plus north-westerly wind. This wasn´t particularly good for the Peniche – Baleal area, so we headed south and checked – without much hope – the Ericeira area. Nothing really surfable there, so we decided to do the obvious thing and head for the south facing parts of the coast around Lisbon.

The wind would be offshore there, but the swell was obviously to northerly with too little energy to make the necessary 120-degree bend around the cape. We drove along the country roads through the coastal hills to Cascais and had a stop for a snack in town. What we had seen from the ocean in driving by was the expected absolute flatness.

Jens had been in Lisbon for a business trip which he managed to extend for three days which meant he had to leave the next day. It also meant that a day without any surf would be a harsh day for him, so we went to look if some part of this south facing coastline would catch some swell.
