The next morning it was still foggy but with daylight visibility was ok. I continued southwards and on the higher parts of the hilly landscape the sun already managed to clear the fog When I reached the end of the motorway, it was all sunny.
At the toll gate they wanted to charge me an absurd fee, claiming that I had spent more than 12 hours on the motorway. I refused to pay this as I couldn´t know about this regulation and after some shouting I “got away” with paying the normal fee.
In the late morning I arrived at my destination, a nice beach bordered by steep cliffs at both sides, the typical Algarve setup. It took me some clueless driving through the labyrinthically narrow alleys of the town to get to a small parking at the east end of the town. Luckily it was off-season, and I could park my van there.
It was sunny and a bit warmer than up in the north and a very light wind was blowing. The swell was about one meter which meant shoulder-high set-waves at the reef at the eastern end of the bay. A nice right was breaking there with just a handful of surfers out. I joined them on my longboard and had a few nice rides and some beatings, as I tended to sit too deep in the lineup. It was a fun setup and a fun wave, but I needed some time to learn how to read it.
