EP07-fun-days-24h

I checked the cape, and it was wild. Howling winds and solid waves combined to very demanding conditions. Two kite surfers and – for a brief time – one windsurfer were out. It was borderline, mostly out of control. The windsurfer tried several times but did not manage to get more than one properly ridden wave. The rest was working hard to get upwind, play roulette in choosing where to get into a wave and start riding it (the peaks were very shifty) and often just hold on for dear life in screaming downwind to avoid getting mowed down by a foam monster.

The kite surfers had it a bit easier as they were less affected by the wind cover from the cliff and when wiping out could use the lift of their kite to get dragged out and over the foam. Don´t get me wrong, it still was very challenging and definitely for experts only.

For my taste this was too much survival instead of wave-sailing here, so I checked Mini Capo. Waves were solid but at a size and particularly form that would allow some proper albeit still challenging wave-sailing. But – and I had that but before – wind speeds were calling for a 4.0 sail or smaller to keep things under control. My smallest sail was 4.5 and that would have meant at least no fun if not sailing completely out of control in a very agitated sea.
