Ice-EP14-45h

Sunday, August 27th.

The morning was grey with the odd drizzle and a stiff southerly wind blowing. After breakfast we drove to the reef. There was some swell and the wind direction was ok, but the tide was a little bit too high. We weren´t convinced and drove to the beach but despite better wind protection we found it too wobbly and returned to the reef to wait for a better tide.

The wind stayed fairly strong, blowing side-offshore and it was pretty rough outside. So, we stayed in the cosy van and watched as the tide slowly dropped. The waves got a little bit better but it wasn´t even remotely as good as it gets here. It wasn´t just the wind that didn´t cooperate but the swell direction was unfavourable too and way too few waves broke in an acceptable way. But sitting in the van al day was no option either, so after a while Timo and I decided to give it a try.

It turned out to be as mediocre as it looked from outside, with shifting peaks often refusing to break at all and a lot of paddling against the wind and the current to find a position that often turned out to be wrong again. But at least we´ve been out there and caught a few waves.
