The plan was to ferry over to Norway and catch the swells in the Stavanger area. Bigger waves and a much more interesting landscape plus significantly smaller crowds in comparison to the easier to reach Danish North Sea coast were the prospects that could make the extra driving and the ferry worthwhile.

The problem was that I had made my decision a bit too late. I wouldn´t be able to reach the last ferry from Hirsthals to Christiansand on Saturday and the first ferry on Sunday was leaving around noon which meant that I would have to spend almost the whole Sunday on the ferry and on the road. Sunday was supposed to be the day when the first swell was peaking and the forecast for northern Denmark was pretty good too. In fact, it was on the brink to being brilliant (for this area) with warm weather, easterly winds and a good sized low frequency pulse of swell.

I didn´t want to risk missing this so I decided to drive to Thy first and see what the swell was like there. From there I still had the option of continuing to the ferry port within an hour and a half driving to take the evening ferry to Norway. Options were a surf session in Thy in the morning and setting over in time to catch more of the swell in Norway on Monday or, if the swell proved to be good in Denmark, stay in thy until Monday and then take the last ferry Monday evening.
