In the end I spent a combined three hours just speeding over small chop and practicing the still most difficult manoeuvre in windsurfing, the jibe. It was a fun day and the water temperatures of about 22 Celsius in combination with air temps of about 25 Celsius even “forced” me to change into the 2-millimetre wetsuit, which provided a completely forgotten looseness on board. Jibes (I can´t do freestyle) became smooth and fast and I turned it into sort of an orgy, keeping the speedy straight tacks short and turning and turning and turning. For me not the worst thing to do on a hot summer day.

Wind directions had been almost exclusively western during the past weeks, which somewhat limits the sailing (and surfing) options at the western German Baltic and particularly at the Lübecker Bucht. So, when in the following week a patch of easterly winds appeared on the forecasts, this was well appreciated.

As always, it is recommendable to mistrust a forecast promising wind more than a few days in advance, but again we were lucky. The last weekend of July should become sunny and warm again and have some decent easterly winds, with forecasted windspeeds peaking Saturday afternoon with up to 30 knots.
