Finisterre-2020-71h

One of the two kayakers paddled into the rapids first and soon managed to surf some of the standing waves. The other – obviously less experienced one – followed his example after a while and after some failures managed to ride a few ones himself. From my standpoint it looked quite dangerous what they were doing within the narrow passage between the tip of the peninsula and the first island but none of these two got into a sketchy situation.

Sometimes they drifted away from the passage but then used sort of a channel with much less currents to easily paddle back to the other side. It looked like good fun and sea kayaking micht well be a good additional sport to pick up, provided one lives close to the coast and has enough spare time.

For now, I resorted to hiking / climbing back along the cliffs to the even part of the peninsula. Instead of taking the shortest way back to the parking, I followed the foot path running along the cliff edge facing the Baie des Trépassés. To my surprise I spotted some lines on the sea running neatly to the beach. It was difficult to judge if the breaking waves were any good from far and just to make sure I didn´t miss anything I headed straight back to the van and drove down to the beach.
