Finisterre-2020-42h

The waves had a nice size but weren´t very clean, despite the favourable light north-easterly wind. The tide wasn´t perfect either, but all in all it was good surf. Just very crowded, despite the sun having just risen. It seemed like every surfer in the wider vicinity was already here plus a good number of wave-hungry people from other parts of France and beyond.

It sure didn´t help that large parts of France including the Atlantic coast from the Spanish border up to Charente Maritime had recently been declared zone red due to rapidly increasing COVID infection numbers. Britany actually was the last “safe” area with a realistic chance to surf.

I really don´t like crowded lineups and with a never-ending stream of more surfers paddling out here it was already way beyond tolerable for me. Add to this a decreasing wave quality due to the dropping tide and it soon became clear that I wouldn´t surf here at least this morning. But the swell seemed big enough to make some other breaks work and so I left and drove over to the next bay.
