[Wissant p3] [Wissant p5]

Plan B was the call, Wissant, on thursday morning at 02:30 the first 5 hours of driving were done. After a relaxed breakfast we hit the road together, circumnavigating traffic jams, sticking to our philosophy that roadmaps are for the weak. On arrival, everything went according to plan, wall to wall sunshine, a nice view of the cliffs of Dover...but somehow Wissant isn´t a secret spot anymore and it seemed that a few other windsufers and kiteboarders had made the same decision. The tiny village of Wissant was packed to the brim, and the view of the cliffs of Dover was obstructed by a cloud of kites.

There wasn´t a single wave fo be found, but with 5.7 and a freestyleboard we found some unobstructed water windwards and had some fun till sunset.

On the 2nd day, the conditions hadn´t improved a lot, but at least you could use a smaller sail and get a glimpse of a few tender waves. Flo was having his doubts, if all of his 20 hour driving was really a smart decision. At least he found some momentary comfort in the arrival of another german windsurf pro who turned up at the beach red eyed after a long night drive. His statement was bold; that it would be good, really good, like Hookipa!
At least he was right in some points, Hookipa is probably as crowded as Wissant was and at the left side there are rocks...or blockhouses in the case of Wissant...
Finally we could use our waveboards. Even if we always had thought Hookipa to be more radical, we had some fun. Saturday started slow, not enough wind, but a lot of sun and enough time for one or two cafe au lait, and a couple of useless tries to get planning. But the huge tide in the english channel makes for a rare opportunity. At low tide you could basically walk around your playground, checking the sandbars forming the waves with the incoming tide.
