We choose to take a carpet, a dirk, a silver tea pot, some trousers and jewellery. We negotiated this for about 1500 Dirhams (the local currency), a Walkman (remember: this was many years before I-Pod), some tapes and t-shirts. We drove to Guelmin to change some money and do one of these rare and tricky phone calls home.

The bargain was celebrated with a dinner of camel meat, Tajine and salad at night. Again the many different languages used did not really hinder an interesting conversation. The night we spent at a cosy place in the oasis.

September 11th: We left the oasis in the late morning, bought some water and bread in Guelmin and drove to Sidi Ifni. The “Plages Blanches” were our destination and so we took the dirt track from Sidi Ifni to Sidi Oasis. It was only 20 kilometres that we had to drive, but it took us two hours as the dirt track was in a pretty bad condition and tested the off-road abilities of our trusty Bus to the limit. We reached the beach in the late afternoon and immediately made acquaintance with a local fisherman. The henna paste obviously didn´t work as the infections on Claudia´s feet had gone worse again. Our fisherman friend Nardim offered to go to Sidi Ifni the next morning and organize some food and medicaments.

September 12th: The shopping plan of Nardim couldn´t be realized as the Landrover, that does sort of a regular twice a day bus tour to Sidi Ifni had not come this morning.
