The next morning we got up at 6 for a fishing trip with Francesco and two of his friends. These boys were – errr – pretty large, which led to some problems balancing the tiny boat that we used for the fishing excursion. The sea was glassy and flat as a pancake, but we didn´t catch any fish. So we switched to water skiing, a sport that neither Chris nor me had practised before. But our combined skiing and windsurfing experience made this an easy task. It wasn´t that easy for the two big guys. The combination of one them sitting in the rear of the boat – and thus pretty strong misbalancing it – a not too strong engine and the forces of gravity working on the one at the end of the rope ended with the guy trying to ski never really getting into planning. Instead he was dragged through the sea half submerged and got a pretty decent flushing. We had quite a bit of fun.

Back on safe land we had a siesta before we went for another windsurfing session in force 6 winds in the afternoon. At night we left our new friends and drove to the next cultural high light, the Mayan site Chichen Itza.

Again we used the tactics to arrive late at night, sleep on the parking lot and get into the site at opening time. Empty Chichen Itza was the reward. We enjoyed the magic of this place until noon and then drove south via Valladolid. Just when being on the road started to get strenuous again we stumbled upon this lagoon at Rio Lagartos, a small fishing village.
