[Belize]

Belize is a small and poor country. 98 % of its population are of African descent. Large parts of the country are covered with thick jungle; paved roads were – at least back in 1991 – an absolute exception as were solid houses in the capital Belize City, where wood was THE building material. Besides a little bit of tourist “industry”, farming and some fishing, there was no evolved economy.

When we reached the Belize frontier, we had to pay 20 $ fee and another 25 Belize $ for a car insurance. With that we were triple insured because we had one insurance for the US, one for Mexico and now one for Belize. Customs was otherwise an easy thing and we drove nutil we reached the outskirts of Belize City, where we spent the night.

Early in the next morning we went to town where a Rasta approached us, telling us that there was a reggae festival in San Ignacio. We decided that this was exactly what we needed, let the guy jump in and show us the way to the festival.

Will be continued soon.
