Bunkers:
Like on so many places of the danish north sea coast a couple of WWII bunkers dominate the scenery. Seems like the german bunker builders had a faible for good surfspots and tried to localize them in a very dominant and bizarre manour.
There is a sandy parking lot, a string of dunes marking the line between raging sea and firm land and large sand beaches. What makes this place exceptional is a firm reef that sticks its nose a bit out into the north sea. This is a very rare occurance at the danish north sea coast which is elsewhere plagued by shifting sandbars.
Naturalely the waves here break in a much better quality than at the rest of danish north sea coast. because of this, the place is not a secret anymore and allready has hostet a couple of surf contest.
Not far away You find a town, that has plenty of rental houses, campsites and a few shops. So accomodation is easy here and there is no need to camp at place, which is forbidden anyhow and gets regularlely controlled by the danish police. The fines are really high and the money is much better invested in renting a house or going to the campsite.
surfing: when the place is on, itīs one of, if not the best surf break in whole Denmark. The nowadays sand covered reef produces an A-frame that can get excellent. Due to its westerly exposition and the lack of jetties, the break is very much exposed to onshore winds. It only really works in the combination of no wind or even better easterly winds and a westerly groundswell. This combination is very rare and usually only lasts a couple of hours so donīt have to high expectations when You come here. It needs a lot of local weahter knowledge and a very fexible time scedule to score here. But the lucky ones here get two or three epic sessions per year.
Due to its fame, the place can get very crowded when itīs on. Donīt go out, if Youīre not ready for it and in any case respect the rules AND the locals!
windsurfing: the waves break very close to shore, but with winds from the south to southwest you can find some nice wavesailing here. Experts only!!
kiteboarding: possible, but not the best place to go. Leave it to the surfing folks.
