Faroe Islands – Southeast passage
The Smyril Line ferry takes a very spectacular route on its way to Iceland. It starts in Torshavn and leads along the southern tips of the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy into the very narrow strait separating Eysturoy from the eastern island. On a day with good weather and visibility this is one of the most scenic ferry routes of Europe.
Particularly the passage through the narrow strait with the towering mountain flanks and cliffs coming closer and closer to the ship as it gets deeper into the archipelago, is fantastic. Hard to say if starboard or port is the better side to watch. Before the ship exits into the open ocean on the north side of the archipelago some impressive cliffs and rock solitaires at the western islands deliver some final awe.
