And centimeter by centimeter we made our way up north to Geraldton and then further and further north to Gnaraloo. Driving in the dawn or dark is no good idea, due to the suicidal kangaroos and emus. So driving at daylight you can expect to see a lot of the country, especially endless roads leading to the horizon and beyond, only confirming the impression of being in an endless country. At least the last 150km to Gnaraloo offer fun and distraction, with dirty gravel roads testing the rental car and your rally driving abilities, all the while calculating the number of spare jerry cans and distance left. Arriving in Gnaraloo we were surprised by the lack of flies, that normally make every windless moment a glimpse of hell.
Wind wise we were lucky again although the waves were not big but still looooooong…really long. And you definitely have to take snorkels and mask with you to visit Nemo and his friends at the reef in the windless mornings. Although in the crystal clear waters you already see heaps of fish and turtles while riding the waves, and a lot of the shape and shallow reef as well.
When the wind finally disappeared we tried to set a new personal best on the first 150km dirt road before driving along Geraldton, Lancelin and another 1000km in the direction of Esperance.
