Following my current dogma of traveling – in particular driving – less but longer I had spent the whole summer in Hamburg with only short trips to the nearby Baltic Sea and to some hillier areas in the wider vicinity. Cycling had been my main outdoor sports plus some windsurfing sessions. In fact, due to surfing nowadays being a mass sport in these waters my focus had shifted back to where I came from, and I had great pleasure in being out at sea with a sail again.

But as fun as the Baltic Sea can get – and quite often got during the warm and long days of this summer, I was quite longing for some decent wave-sailing and therefor had started to keep a closer eye on the North Sea since with the beginning of September the chances for some stormier weathers were increasing.

It was mid-September when an interesting forecast finally appeared on the horizon. The closer it got, the better it looked with a full four-day period of northerly winds from decent to strong and some solid north swell. It seemed exactly what I needed so I packed the van and finished my working week at a Wednesday evening.
