The weather was too fine to get back to bed so I wandered around a bit more. The light was so pleasing – you know how it is when in the middle of dark winter a sunny day interrupts the endless grey – and I strolled back to the beach and continued into the harbour. From the tip of the harbour wall I had another view onto the lineup.
It was a great view. An endless row off liquid lines rolled into the bay, nicely lit by the low standing winter sun and still bruised into shape by a stiff side-offshore wind. South Bay presented itself in a very attractive manner.
Not very surprisingly this little winter wonderland attracted surfers too. More and more of them entered the lineup where they had to overcome the odd “caught inside” situation and a stiff offshore wind trying to prevent them from making the take-off. Still it was as epic as it gets in this region. Not for me though. Despite all the sunshine and beautiful light, it was very challenging surf conditions. Waves had size and power and the temperatures were just above freezing. You needed a lot of energy to surf here now. And I had very little energy.
So I decided to do some more exploration to be prepared for the upcoming two days with hopefully less restrictions from the cold.
