Despite my mental pains about having to stay on firm land, I enjoyed the view quite a bit. It is amazing how much a proper peninsula can improve the surf. Outside on the open North Sea it was blowing hard and windsurfers would have had a blast whereas the leeward side of the peninsula has a smooth ocean surface and clean waves. It also helps to have a powerful swell that can bend 90 degrees and still keeps some energy.
A bit further down the beach it was a mix of quite a bit of wind – luckily side-offshore – but bigger waves. A couple of hundred meters more to the south it became unsurfable again. Wish we had a rugged coastline like this on our side of the North Sea too.
As I had no breakfast yet I walked over the bridge to the upper town centre. At the end of the bridge one of these cable car stations had been transformed into a café. I had scones and a coffee to refuel some energy. The coffee was shite but the view on the bay was amazing.
