The last forecast check before departure revealed another change in the wind direction. It would blow straight out of the north according to this. This meant gale force side-shore winds and the need to find some very protected areas. But there is plenty of high cliffs that give protection in Yorkshire and the forecast for the three days after Friday was very promising. With the change of the wind into the northerly direction there would also be lower temperatures and snow was forecasted for the night from Thursday to Friday. I didnīt mind the snow, I was just excited about the waves that – hopefully – would run during my four days stay.

The plane was punctual and thanks to prefilling forms on the internet it took me just a few minutes to get the keys of my rental car. According to my ah so smart phone it was about two and a half hours driving from Manchester airport to Scarborough, where I would have my base camp for the next four days. I expected it to last longer due to the expected snowfall.

On the motorway it didnīt take long until I passed the first “severe weather warning” sign. It had a few snowflakes but nothing really worrying. Even better, after about 30 miles the snowfall stopped and it stayed dry for the rest of the drive. Almost 90% of the route were motorways and due to the cooperating weather god, I reached Scarborough at a still civilized time.
