Surprisingly – or with modern forecast tools maybe not that surprisingly – quite a few windsurfers had managed to organize their Friday work schedules in a way that allowed them to be here in time. The result was quite a bit of traffic but also a broad display of what modern wave-sailing is about.
The conditions were as good as they get here with steep ramps for serious jumps and some open shoulders for some fun wave riding. And instead of 6 mm full suits, hoods and gloves short arm wetsuits and bare feet were the dress code. Tempting. Very tempting to persuade my worn out body for another session.
But it said no and so I parked the van at a strategic optimised position just upwind enough to avoid the nasty smell that the wind carries over from the waste treatment just behind the beach while still having a front row view on the action. I filled up my energy storage with some well needed nourishment while having one of the best views thinkable. The icing on the action cake was the beautiful early evening light. So I constantly switched from eating and drinking to grabbing my camera and pulling the trigger, all this sitting on the bank in my van.
This was a very comfortable photo shooting and the combination of great light and great windsurfers performing right in front of my van led to a pretty high quota of keeper-images (check this gallery for all the shots).
