Later in the morning the wind started to drop a bit und the higher tide created some weird current that limited the fun in windsurfing. Kitesurfers still were going off – like so often in these side-onshore conditions – and even surfers managed to catch a few rides. To my surprise most surfers tried to catch one of the very few waves in the basin that did not close out instead of searching for the far more consistent running rights south of the jetty.
Compared to the – always glorified – past I must say that the “old” jetty produced much better conditions. But this is history and it was good to know that at least windsurfing could get fairly nice in the right conditions. I left in the early afternoon and drove north to check what the north moving wind field would create in Thy.
I took the drive easy as I already had my share of windsurfing and felt that nice body ache that only comes from a good wave-sailing session. At about a quarter before seven I passed the roundabout, took the turn off to the harbour and stopped besides the street where you have that great overview across the coast. What I saw looked nice. Very nice, to be precise. Something you don´t see very often during summer.
Thy´s north shore got blessed by a solid west-northwest sideshore wind and even more solid waves. A typical autumn or winter scenario at the end of a nicely tempered July.
