It was glassy there too. Smooth lines were rolling in, touched the outer sandbars and – finally – found some form at the inside. Still, the outer breaks had the “waves popping up and vanishing again within second” dilemma, but the inside waves had some push. But they also were merely closeouts and to surf them you needed to be extremely quick and flexible. And there were no errors allowed in positioning.
It´s not that any serious beatings were the consequences to deal with, it was frustrating straight-handers that you would get if you took off a few meters too deep or were standing on your board some split seconds too late. Peaks were shifting quite a bit too which added some extra challenge.
But two young and flexible and quick moving guys – it helped to be able to surf tiny boards and being not too tall too – showed how to surf these waves. To be precise, they showed how to surf these waves front-side. Surfing them backside was an impossible task even for these skilled guys.
It was fun nevertheless until sunset, when the wind came back and turned onshore. Time for me to leave and head west way into Liguria. The forecast for the next day was strong onshores in the morning with solid wind-swell and the promise of the wind turning offshore around noon. Sounded promising.
