After a little loop through the seaside parts of Viareggio I found the right side road leading to the part of the direction changing one way road following the beach that allowed access to the pier I was looking for. It is a nicely designed pier with a very nice bar at the end where you can sip your cappuccino and at the same time have an excellent view on the various surf breaks. In fact, you could also finish your cappuccino and jump straight into the lineup.

Anyhow, there were the usual outside peaks that tease you but need large boards to be surfed. But there was also a clean but very fast right breaking right underneath the poles at the very end of the pier. The left would have been surfable if it wasn´t breaking through that wood of piles. The right had a sketchy take-off right in front of the obstacles but then ran for quite a while in undisturbed waters. Smaller sets were breaking further inside with the take-off besides the pier. They had a tendency to close out. Or were just very fast. The classification depends a lot on how quick your body works.

Paddling out seemed like a lot of work with a bit of unruly white water to cross. Once up on the bridge I realized that there was an easier way to get into the lineup. Gotta know the actual water depths when daring that jump though.

To my surprise everybody stuck to that tricky and fast right, even the longboard guys went into that hard to win battle with the hard sucking wave despite having a go for the softer outside peaks.
