As always – at least during low tide – there were plenty of empty breaks on offer underneath the cliffs. Back at the main break the situation was more or less unchanged. Good sized waves were breaking but very few of them were properly ridden, mostly by goofy-footers. The line-up was pretty packed at both peaks.
Then suddenly a large set was approaching. It had easily double the size of the previous set-waves and caught everyone by surprise. And it was a five-waves set which caused some havoc in the line-up.
Sets like this became the standard now and lines were reaching to the horizon. The predicted ground-swell had arrived. But things didn´t really improve at the beachies. Sure, there was still the odd hollow left at the inside that offered the opportunity to get shacked. And yes, the right also had some workable walls. But overall it was mostly survival paddling with very little reward.
So, I decided to leave the bay and drive to the peninsula further north in the hope that the point would be working.
