But it came either onshore (at the western orientated coast) or the wind swell was too weak to make it into the more sheltered bays at the northerly orientated coast. So I moved on. I had a quick stop to have a look at the massive fortifications that the Germans left from world war two. Their bunkers can be found everywhere along the French Channel and Atlantic coasts but these were some of the biggest I´ve seen.

I followed the coast south to Wimereux. On the way I passed the Dunes De La Sack, a beautiful coastal area with nice little bays and large beaches in front of high dunes. It had a bit of potential but the wind was a good force 7 to 8 full onshore. At least the sun came out for a while. In Wimereux I managed to fins a “patisserie” that had open and bought some well needed “Pains Aux Chocolats” and Croissants. As there was nothing really to do with the gale force onshores I had to kill a bit of time. The interesting weather constellation was forecasted for the following day.

So I returned to the motorway and drove to a service station close to the exit to my new destination. As it gets dark shortly after 4 in the afternoon and decided to stay here until the next morning The heating in my van was not working and I planned to spend at least some time in the warmth of the service station. They had some electricity to load up the batteries of laptop and cameras too but didn´t sell beer. So I had some non-alcoholic drinks while spending some time in the www.
