But on the way to the service shop I recognized a large sign, saying that one only could stay 2 hours for free on this parking. But it was possible to spend the night if buying a ticket for 18 pounds. What the f§$k? 18 pounds for spending the night on a motorway parking? This is absurd! The sign also said that the parking is under video surveillance – seems to be the only thriving business in the country – and there is a fee of 100 pounds for staying here without having “paid and displayed” (another one of these terms I have become allergic here).

So I had to drive on to the peninsula. I made it over the single lane roads and a few flooded sections to a larger parking just outside a little town and spent the night here.

I got up early the next morning and reached the cliffs just after the sun made it through the morning mist. The wind was a light southwest and some waves rolled in. They were still a bit mushy from the nightly winds so I went for a walk first and tried to get up on one of the grassy hills to get a better overview but soon had to realize that it was all too wet. The meadow was soaked with water and a slippery swamp.

But the sun managed to warm the air a little bit so I grabbed my longboard and walked down the path at the cliffs of Rhossili to the large beach. The ocean bottom drops very slowly here and the swell wasn´t very clean so it was a bit hard to paddle out and find a decent peak. But after a while I found one and had my first waves in 2016. With the end of my session the sun disappeared and the wind turned southwest and started to pick up again.
