EP11-southwest-82h

Sure, peaks were wildly shifting and lining up was a bit of a lottery combined with huge paddling efforts, but there were some good waves to have. That didn´t last long though, as the rain returned and with it another twist in the wind direction which messed up the waves. I retreated to the dry warmth of my appartement. Here I booked a ferry from Bastia to the mainland for Thursday. Christmas was approaching and it was time to interrupt the lonely road trip to meet some family.

Wednesday, December 13th the sun finally reappeared. I checked out of the appartement in the morning – which took a little while – and then headed straight to the west-facing bay. The swell was still there but the wind rapidly turned into the wrong direction and messed it all up. In stark contrast to Sardinia – and there particularly the central west coast – Corsica seems to be much more affected by the swell creating winds, which locally often come from the same direction as the swell.

Corsica also lacks a location like the Sinis Peninsula – at least I haven’t found something comparable – with wind protection and at the same time sufficient exposure to catch enough swell. But that disadvantage gets very much compensated by the spectacular mountains-meet-the-sea landscape that blesses moist of the west coast of Corsica.
