Sunday, December 10th
It had been raining all night and it still was raining when I got up at dawn. The wind was coming from a southerly direction – it finally had turned sometimes during the night – and a messy southwest swell was running. It must have been a pretty hefty storm during the night as the shores were awash with flotsam and some half-sunken boats.
Onshore wind at the south-facing coast meant there was a chance for side-offshores at the west coast. So, I drove above the hills again to the bay with the eagles. The rain was still relentlessly pouring but the wind now came from the desired direction. Small but surf-able waves were breaking at the beach. The reef up at the point looked better but I wasn´t ready to paddle out there for a first-time session all alone in these conditions.
Way too soon the wind turned south-west again and messed up the swell. The rain didn´t stop and I drove to Ajaccio again and went to a washing saloon to kill time and stock up on clean clothes. It was still raining when the washing was finished, and I went to the next bar. As I now was really fed up with the rain, I checked the internet for some dry and warm accommodation and found an apartment to rent. I contacted the owners and booked it for two days.
