Sure, it wasn´t quite Tahiti, but for the Med, it had some rarely found quality. The first section was pretty fast and sometimes hollow and difficult to take off, but once you managed this, the wave was bent furthermore and became a cruisy wall. The only downside was the low frequency of the waves which arrived in tow-wave sets with longer lulls in between.

Setups and swell like this are very crowd-sensitive though, and the line-up was starting to fill up. Just to make sure that I didn´t miss another gem, I drove further down the road until I reached its end point. The scenery was fantastic there, with the sea raging behind the barrier of islands and reefs and the odd set making it around the islands in a 90 degree turn and reach the rocky shores where slabby waves were occasionally breaking. It was not clear if these waves were surf-able, but in any case they looked dangerous.

So, I returned to the point. A ten-men crew – as far as I could judge there were no women involved – was out and battling for the set waves. These were still coming with long intervals, but with fun size and good form. In between sets were small but at least log-able.
