I halfway managed to succeed with this stunt and got properly worked. My leash had opened during this procedure and the board was washed onto the rocky shore while I was still drifting in the impact zone. I hastily apologized to the guy I had unwittingly burned and then swam for my board. On the way in I got worked by a few more waves and this way got more intimate with the reef. This way I learned that it had some holes and slightly twisted my knee in one of them before I finally reached the flat rock plate and could get hold of my board.
Luckily it is an epoxy board and indestructible despite being already 20 years old and had survived the rock dangling without any visible damage. Back on shore I was quite frustrated but not ready to finish this way. So, I walked over the short distance to the reef / point further down and paddled out here. It was far from empty either but as I already knew the break from former sessions, I manged to catch a few waves and save the session.
