Monday, November 27th

I got up before dawn and checked Capo Mannu with first light. The swell was big and unruly and not running very well. Mini Capo was better. It was still very cold, so I went to the bar at Mandriola to have my cappuccino and brioches. When the sun made it over the mountains, and it got warmer I headed over to the exposed bay facing west.

On the way through the marshlands behind the beach I stopped to admire a flock of flamingos. The seem to love the brackwater and saline ponds in the area and obviously do not bother heading further south for the winter.

The parking at the beach was empty. The swell was big but still a bit unruly, despite the light easterly wind that was blowing down from the inland mountains. A local arrived on his bicycle and paddled out. It took him herculean efforts to make it through der raging white water zone to the lineup. There he tried to paddle into a couple of waves but never managed to catch one. His board was obviously too small.
