At Palau I made a quick detour up the hill to the fortress from where you have a fantastic view over the archipelago. The islands lay beautifully lit within an absolute calm sea. I have been here a couple of times over the years and therefor have savoured this panorama before. But this is one of the places that never get boring and make every repetition a new source of joy.
The only minor mood dampener was the calmness of the sea as I had arrived with the faint hope, that an afternoon breeze would allow a cruise windsurf session with big board and sail within the bay and islands at Porto Pollo. There was no breeze at all. I nevertheless drove the remaining distance to Porto Pollo
Over there I just enjoyed the mild temperatures at the beach, had a dinner consisting entirely of local food while watching the colours in the bay change with the setting sun. I rarely have seen the sea here in such a mirror-like calmness and my mind still associates this place with the unleashed forces of nature that I witnessed during my first visit back in 1986 (see this story).
