Thursday, November 23rd was another sunny day. I drove back up to the main road which follows the coastal mountain ridge at some altitude. The plan was to do some further investigation of this region, but after a few kilometres on the windy road my van started to protest. The engine occasionally had cut-outs and at the dashboard warnings about engine failures appeared, together with an unnerving alarm sound every few minutes.
I have had these problems before, often on similar curvy up and down roads and had learned not to take these panic attacks of my vans already quite aged electric systems too seriously as they tended to vanish once I gave the van a longer break. Still the nervy beep every few minutes – it couldn´t be shut off – were a nuisance and to be honest I wasn´t absolutely sure that a complete engine breakdown was that unrealistic.
As I did not want to break down on a narrow windy road in the middle of nowhere, I decided that it would be safer to get as near as possible to a major town with proper garages. So, I stayed on the main road and followed it north in direction to Olbia. On the way I didn´t dare to stop – which was a pity given the beautiful landscape I was driving through – until I reached the expressway south of Olbia.
