So, I walked down through the mostly empty streets until I reached a bar. From the outside it looked like the classic Italian bar with a few tables outside and surely the typical functional interior. I went in and was stunned. This was definitely not just another bar, it resembled more an art deco exhibition, extensively decorated in every room without getting trashy despite the abundance of interior elements. The icing on the decorative cake was that the coffee and the pastry you could take there still held the Italian standards while not being anything near expensive.
After this culinary and artistic experience, I strolled through town a little bit more. I found some modern interpretations of the classic murales (murals with often political and / or subversive messages applied to walls since long before there was something like graffiti) and the classic Fiat Cinquecento and generally liked this place. But now I was ready for some wonders of nature and headed back to the van to get on the – windy – road again.
Nature began just outside town with still abundant green hills and valleys but the majestic rock gardens on the horizon were what I was heading for. Progress on the narrow mountain roads was slow but the strenuous drive was rewarded with great views. I made a few stops to soak in the panorama but generally headed slowly but steadily south to my chosen destination, the Gola Gorroppu.
