It got dark now, way too soon, which is one if not the major disadvantage of the late autumn season and I drove over to the west facing beach to spend the rest of the evening and a long and cold night here.
Tuesday, November 21
The morning was icy cold as the night, but at least the wind had dropped, albeit still being a light onshore. A nice little leftover swell was running, but firstly I drove to the bar in Mandriola to warm up a little bit and have my obligatory cappuccino plus two brioches breakfast. Once my systems were running again, I returned to the beach. The sun was out now, it was getting warm and the wind had turned offshore.
During the cold morning light, the scenery had more reassembled sub-arctic regions, but now it had become the mild winter climate that you expect to bless the Mediterranean Sea. The wide sandy beach here makes this a lovely and very popular bathing place during summer but actually only exists because a string of reefs protects it from savage winter swells. The amazing thing about these reefs is that they are not only capable of holding large swells and transform them into extraordinary good waves but also milk the tiniest of wobbles into astoundingly good waves.
