I went for a little walk into the lower parts of the town but kept my visit short as I needed to fuel up some Diesel before it got too late and gas stations would eventually be closed. It turned out to be a bit difficult to find a gas station that was accepting my credit card but after a little bit of searching I found one.
So, I could continue driving north. I stopped at a little supermarket to buy some food and then drove up the hill north of town. Soon the street turned west versus the coast. I made another stop once the sea became visible because I had seen something resembling a breaking wave. And indeed some small waves were breaking at a reef near a small beach. The setup was promising but the waves turned out to be too small. It wasn´t worth paddling out, but I marked the spot on my inner “have to check again” map.
From here the road climbed up the mountains and followed the coast high up above steep cliffs. The view was stunning and made it once again difficult to concentrate on driving on the windy road. My plan was to drive to Alghero and spend the night there on a campground. It already started to get dark when I reached the town and I couldn´t find a campground that was open. Obviously during this tie of the year all campgrounds on the island are closed.
