Then thick dark clouds arrived soon followed by heavy rain and hail. This happened so quick that I had no chance to run for shelter from the rock shelf in front of the break where I was shooting photos. I got soaking wet in no time. That thunderstorm must have alerted the birds in the area too, because suddenly huge flocks of them were up in the sky and performing weird flight trajectories.

But this thunderstorm changed the conditions in a remarkable way. The wind turned north and started to drop. It was game over for the windsurfers but opened a one-hour window of opportunities for the surfers before it got dark.

The swell was still very solid, wave size at Mini Capo even increased and wave quality got better with every minute. In the end it was a pretty good Pipeline imitation, that the Med performed here. On offer were hilarious wipeouts but some epic rides too.

The visions of the last minutes of the dying day did not belong to the Med. This would already have been a suitable end to a string of epic days caused by this Genoa low, but according to the forecast there was more to come.
