During this effort he was dragged that much down the line that he couldn´t swim back to the narrow launching “beach” and had to swim around the point to make it to the beach of mini Capo. This is a very long swim spiced up by a couple of solid waves that you have to take on the head. You have to know very well what you´re doing and you have to be very confident if you want to attack the lip.

Add to this the very tricky entrance to the spot. This is just a narrow gap – about 5 meters wide – between two fingers of sharp and uneven rock pointing out at sea. Naturally there is almost no wind here and bigger sets send 1-meter white-water waves into this, err, launch bay. Timing is crucial here, you have to wait for a gust of stronger wind making it to shore AND a lull in the swell.

Some guys waited 15 minutes before they could dare going out. If you loose patience you´ll just get swept back into the “bay” (if you are lucky). For getting back to shore after your session – don´t even think about just coming in for a break – you need to sail into the same tiny bay. Again, timing is key, you need to wait for a mid-sized set, ride it till the end and ride the white-water reform into the gap in the rocks. Do not miscalculate the current while doing this….
