Knowing this I was tempted to paddle out but felt too low on energy and therefore drove a little bit further south to Cargèse in search of a bar already open and some breakfast.
In the bar that I eventually found I was the only guest which was no wonder because it was still very early Sunday. After a quick Café aux Lait and Croissant I went out again and had another look on the bay. The wind had turned side-onshore now and was slowly picking up. I got into the van and drove south on the road following the coast in search of a bay with better wind protection and enough swell exposure.
I didn´t find one and soon it started to rain again. When the rain turned torrential, I turned back north and drove to Cargèse again. When I reached the town, it was sunny again, but the wind now had stabilized at about 15 knots southwest. There would be no acceptable surf conditions here today despite the rising swell.
I had a short stroll through the nice old town centre – which was still more or less deserted – before I entered another bar along the main street. That bar was full of people now with some unique characters amongst them. I had a coffee and observed the scenery for a while and decided to head further south.
