But despite this improvement it was still mostly a wobbly mess of waves getting steep, disappearing again and often crossing the path of other waves. A lot of duck diving for mostly unpleasant rides on weak waves was all you got. Late, too late I realized that some guys had paddled out at the reef. I only managed to walk over and have a look at four guys – the same four mousquetaires (three regulars and a goofy) I had seen surfing that break last winter – surfing some final waves before the swell dropped too much.

I spent another night at the beach parking, hoping for some leftover waves and light offshore winds the following day. Wind and weather turned out to be perfect the following morning, but the swell was very tiny. I was already ready to call it a day but as it was very warm, I finally decided to paddle out with the longboard. Turned out to be at least a little bit surfable.

Afterwards I had a second breakfast and generally enjoyed the sun. ready to leave I went for a last look at the beach, found out that the waves had a little bit improved and paddled out for another session until the wind turned onshore.
