It wasn´t the prettiest place, with the motorway crossing the narrow valley inland on a bridge and various roads coming down the valley, all of them congested with cars heading into the city. The “beach” consisted of nasty boulders and was bordered by the huge sea wall. The river coming down the mountains trickling probably not very fresh water into a sea surely not unaffected by the nearby harbour. The combination of worn-down industrial areas and nasty shore breaks to the east. This was a classic city surf spot and a place reserved to the locals.
It soon got dark and I re-entered the traffic jam. Luckily it dissolved once I passed the traffic lights at the crossing which apparently caused a major bottleneck. The following drive through downtown Genoa was nevertheless the usual nightmare and I was glad when I finally reached the motorway again. This motorway is kinda adventurous too until it leaves the Genoa city limits. The following winding route through the coastal mountains stays demanding though and it wasn´t until I passed La Spezia that I could really relax.
