Mad Monday

Monday May 30th was very warm in northern Germany. And it was supposed to get pretty windy at the Baltic Sea. Sure, it was a Monday. The first day of a long period of windless (and wave-less in consequence) days at this part of the Baltic Sea (the Danes and Swedes were way better off like always). But it was a Monday where everybody had to work or study or go to school. People who are their own boss like me like it this way. At least when there are no business obligations that are not too important.

This Monday I had no obligations that couldn´t be fulfilled at another day. In fact, I already had worked during the weekend to maximise the off-the-office time available. The wind was supposed to kick in around noon which was perfect to get some work done in the morning and then hit the road after the working masses had blocked them for the week start. I left at ten and reached my favourite east-wind windsurfing spot at noon. I was amongst the first to park on that field. A first check revealed that the wind was still a bit weak which gave me time for a coffee and for preparing board and sail that I hadn´t used for a while.

Half an hour later the wind was ready and so was I. Small wave board and 5.0 sail were just right and I once again was happy that I never followed the zeitgeist to quit windsurfing in favour of surfing or even kite-boarding. It wasn´t really spectacular, but it was definitely fun: small waves without too much punch and a side-onshore wind allowed for some easy sort-off wave-sailing in sunny weather and already mildly temperate water.
