I managed to pass this thing and continued my walk, still hurrying to get away from the pack. After a while it got more quiet. At one point a smaller path went off from the main path. It was labelled as “difficult walk”. I took it and finally found solitude amongst these dark castles. It was a nice walk from here on.
Back at the parking I was unsure what to do. The original plan was to stay in the area for another day and then continue west. But the forecast for the west fjords had absolutely nothing to offer swell-wise. And the Myvatn area was way too crowded for my taste. I checked the forecasts for the east coast too and there was some easterly swell promised with light winds today and tomorrow. I decided to change the plan and drive back east. With a bit off luck I could even get wet today as there is enough light almost until midnight.
This time I took the ring road. It runs through the Dimmifjallgardur, a desert like plateau that reminds me a lot to many areas in Morocco. The sun was already standing pretty low and gave a very nice warm light. The drive was hallucinogenic and not for a second boring during all these 160 kilometres to Egilstadir. I had to stop a couple of times despite my urgent need to get to surf. It was just too fascinating to just drive by.
