The next morning it was foggy and rainy and grey, but with very little wind. I had a little breakfast and then drove the remaining half an hour to the beach.
There it did not look very pleasant either. I nevertheless payed the fee to enter the beach and drove the few hundred – very bumpy – meters to the point. From here I could check the waves and what I saw was not the brightest. The wind was still a light onshore und the waves not really clean. But you could see the potential.
The wind was supposed to turn further down and little bit more to the south, which would help. So, I waited for a while and indeed with the diminishing wind the waves got better. Time to get out there. I didnīt feel too comfortable not knowing how the different breaks would function, not knowing anything about currents and – most important – not knowing anything about the animals out there. At other breaks, I had seen seals and a small whale but here it was just the usual large flock of birds.
The low hanging clouds and general dullness didnīt help either. The famous panorama in front of the beach – Chris Burkhard has shot an epic photo here a while ago – was not visible.
