I had seen a few spots on the map that might be worth checking, but once again the search turned out to be very difficult. It is a mission even find access to the shore as besides the main road there are hardly any other roads or even dirt tracks turning off. Most of them are just short dead-end ways to private land and so you often drive along the road knowing the coast is just a few hundred meters away with not even a possibility to stop alongside the main road and go for a walk.
Most of the coast here is very rugged lava rocks and reefs with very little sandy patches in between. So my biggest hope was a place with “Strandar” (means beach) in its name. So, when I parked the van besides the sea protection wall I was eagerly climbing the wall to check the beach.
But again, the beach turned out to be a labyrinth of sharp lava rocks, round boulders and no sand. At least this was the case during the current high tide. The wind was blowing side-onshore here too, so all I could do was visit the very nice little church near the beach and then return to the point. At least I would be able to watch some good waves there.
