But I was not even not impressed but disappointed. Maybe I was spoiled by the still fresh memories of the cliffs on the Faroe Islands which were of a wholly different proportion and that much more impressive. Maybe it was the dull light of the overcast sky and the drizzle. Maybe it was the lack of swell. Maybe it was the amount of people on the beach and in between the rocks. Maybe it was all this together.
So, I left and drove back to the Ring Road and then over another dead-end road to Dyrholaey, the next “have to visit” landmark in the area. Again, the dull weather and the increasing rain (and the lack of swell) spoiled my impression of an otherwise probably quite exciting combo of high cliffs and wide overview across the beaches and to the mountains.
Again, I stayed just a couple of minutes. On the way back, I stopped at a parking in front of an interesting looking rock and had some food. From the parking I could see that there was a cave up on the hill and as I thought that a little bit of physical exercise would do me good, I climbed up to the cave. It turned out that it was a very small cave but the outlook from up here was pretty nice.
